HOW TO REACH- DOOARS


It is nearly an 8,000 Sq.Km. area including Terrain and Long Terrain of the Region and is basins of famous rivers like ‘TEESTA’, ‘TORSA’, ‘JALDHAKA’ , ‘MAHANANDA’. The regioon The region forms the gateway to Bhutan from India. There are 18 passages or gateways through which the Bhutanese people can communicate with the people living in the plains. This region is divided by the Sankosh river into the Eastern and the Western Dooars, consisting of an area of 8,800 km˛ (3,400 sq mi). The Western Dooars is known as the Bengal Dooars and the Eastern Dooars as the Assam Dooars. Dooars is synonymous with the term Terai used in Nepal and northern India and form the only nitrate rich soil in India.

GARUMARA - A NATIONAL PARK

Left bank of descending ‘Teesta’ accessible from ‘Sivok’ crossing ‘ Corronation Bridge’ and taking turn in right on Car by NH-31. Nearest Rail Station-New Mal Jn. And also approachable from the opposite side via Railway Station Mainaguri. It can be approached through ‘Gajol Doba’ via Canal Road.

JALDAPARA - A WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Right Bank of descending ‘Torsa’ accessible from New Jalpaiguri on NH-31

‘JAINTY’-‘BUXA’ - REMOTE JUNGLE

Right bank descending river’Jainty’, accessible from ‘Raja-Bhat-Khawa’ Rail Station or ‘Alipurduar’ Junction Railway Station. Famous Elephant Corridor and spot to watch’Giant Lizard”, ‘King Cobra’.

‘HALLONG’ - ELEGANT ACCOMMODATION IN FOREST

Right bank of ‘Torsa’, remote. Accessible from ‘Madarihat’ (NH-31) through Forest Gate against ‘Govt. Entry Fee’ and ‘registered guide’. Famous ‘Elephant Ride Spot’. Elephant Ride Ticket is issued against ‘Identity Proof’ the day before from Madarihat/Jaldapara Forest Office. Famous for watching Wildlife at ‘Salt Lick’ at night from Hallong Bunglow. It’s a forest mainly of ‘Indian Mapple’, ‘Khair’ and ‘Chalta- Apple of all Elephants’.

‘CHILAPATA’-EXTREMELY DENSE FOREST - ON LEFT BANK OF TORSA RIVER

Accessible from Jaldapara/Malangi/Raja-Bhat-Khawa. Chilapata Safari is under the control of Govt. Permit, Gypsi and Guide is available at nearest Forest Office against necessary charge.

‘BORDABRI’-LOCATION OF ‘MALANGI FOREST LODGE’

On the bank of little ‘Malangi River’, another ‘ANOTHER ELEPHANT RIDE SPOT’ of Govt., Controlled and maintained from’Malangi Forest Lodge’. Nearest Railway Station, ‘Hasimara’. It is on the other side of ‘Hasimara Air Base’.
Malangi Forest is famous for Birds, Monkeys and Rhinos. ‘Neelkantha’ bird is regularly seen at Malangi Garden.

‘RASIKBIL’-A BIRD SANCTUARY’

Approachable from Raja-Bhat-Kahawa. Season- December to February.
It is also accessible via Tufangunj (famous for ‘Green Chilli Harvesting’) from Alipurduar, but road condition is not that good. There is one forest Lodge. Adjacent Forest Park is well maintained and good spot for photography.

‘BANESWAR-MADAN MOHAN AND COOCHBIHAR PALACE’

The palace itself will satisfy a great for such a tour to Coochbihar. The palace is legendary. Remains closed on Fridays. Tickets are issued up to 1600 hrs. at the entrance gate. There is Light and Sound show against notification.

‘JHALONG & BINDU’- ON THE FOOT HILL OF BHUTAN NEAR JALDHAKA HIDEL PROJECT

It is accessible from Lataguri (Garumara) via ‘Khunia More’ (on NH-31) through ‘Chapramari Forest’ (famous for Elephant and Rhino), remote and fierce.

‘SAMSING-SULTANEKHOLA’

Nice journey through Samsing/Meteli Tea Garden from Lataguri and is famous for Hills and Hilly River.

‘LAVA-LULAGAON-RISHOP’

Left of NH-31, accessible from Murti/Lataguri.
It is in the same array with ‘Kalimpong’ famous for ‘Kanchenjungha’ view and Orchid.
Canopy walk is another thrill there. The road condition from Lava to Lulagaon is not good. Otherwise the trip from Lataguri to Lava via Chalsa (NH-31) is memorable.

‘CHARKHOLE’- KANCHENJUNGHA VIEW POINT’

Road through village and bolders will never say a happy journey, but once you reach it is simply a Heaven at the foot of Kanchenjungha without barrier except treacherous cloud in front. Accessible from Lataguri, Siliguri, New Mal Jn. and Chalsa.

‘CHAPRAMARI’- A FOREST RESORT WITHOUT ELCTRICITY

An amazing watch tower for wildlife watch. For birds-early morning and foe animals-afternoon.
Controlled by Govt. against fees. Permit, vehicle and guide are available from Chalsa Forest Office (right of NH-31)

‘DHUPJHORA’-MURTI RIVER AND 'BANANI' Government forest lodge

It is on the bank of river Murti, accessible from New Mal Jn. Stataion and Chalsa. Left of NH-31.
